When to worry about flaky scalp if you have scalp ringworm

Scalp Ringworm can cause flaky patches, itch, broken hairs, or areas where hair seems shorter. Tender swelling, black dots from broken hairs, crusting, or a boggy painful lump can signal stronger inflammation. Several scalp conditions look similar, so appearance alone cannot confirm the cause.

Arrange medical assessment rather than relying on ordinary dandruff shampoo. Avoid sharing brushes, combs, hats, pillows, or towels, and do not scratch. Tell the clinician about close contacts, pets with bald patches, recent spread, and every product already used.

Seek prompt care for painful swelling, pus, fever, rapidly spreading redness, or marked tenderness. Arrange review quickly for broken hairs, patchy hair loss, or worsening scale, since inflammation can affect hair follicles. Urgent assessment is needed if you feel very unwell or swelling approaches the eyes.

Ask whether testing is needed, whether treatment must reach the infection through the bloodstream, and how to protect household members. Mention pets, affected contacts, broken hairs, scalp pain, and any medicines used.
