When to worry about night sweats with Hodgkin lymphoma

Hodgkin lymphoma can cause sweating, and treatment can also change how your body regulates temperature. A warm bedroom, medicines, or an infection may produce a similar symptom, so sweating alone cannot show whether the lymphoma is changing.

Record how often you wake, whether clothes or bedding become wet, and whether the pattern began after a treatment change. Mention fever, itching, cough, breathlessness, reduced appetite, unusual tiredness, or a growing lump at review.

Tell your oncology team about a new or changing pattern rather than waiting for the next routine appointment. Continue treatment and supportive medicines as prescribed, and ask before taking a new product for fever or sweating.

Use light sleepwear, keep the room comfortable, and replace wet bedding. Drink regularly if you can, and keep a written list of symptoms, medicines, and recent treatment dates for your appointment.

Seek urgent medical help for severe breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, confusion, inability to keep fluids down, or sudden severe weakness. Contact your oncology team promptly for fever, shaking chills, a new cough, painful swelling, or signs of infection.

Ask which temperature or infection symptoms need same-day advice, whether your treatment can cause sweating, and what changes in a lump, cough, or energy level should be reported.
