What is polydioxanone thread used for?

Polydioxanone, often called PDO, is an absorbable suture material. During a thread-lift procedure, a clinician places smooth or textured threads under the skin using a needle or cannula. Some designs provide a subtle mechanical support, while smooth threads are used mainly for a collagen-supporting effect. They may be considered for mild laxity or definition changes in areas such as the face or neck. Thread lifts do not replace surgery and cannot correct every degree of sagging.

Ask which thread design and placement plan match your anatomy and desired change. Tell the clinician about active skin infection, dental or facial procedures, bleeding medicines, autoimmune disease, and a history of poor healing or raised scars. Discuss asymmetry, dimpling, thread visibility, infection, and the possibility of adjustment or removal. Call the treating clinic for increasing pain, redness, warmth, swelling, drainage, fever, or a thread that becomes exposed.
