What happens if non-Hodgkin lymphoma is not treated?

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma includes different diseases, so the pace and pattern of progression vary. Enlarged lymph nodes may grow or press on nearby structures. Lymphoma can also involve organs such as the spleen, bone marrow, or digestive tract, which may affect blood-cell production, immunity, energy, or digestion.

Some people develop fever, drenching night sweats, tiredness, or unintentional weight loss. Symptoms can be caused by lymphoma but can also have other explanations; a swollen lymph node does not by itself establish the diagnosis. Testing is needed to identify the subtype and extent.

Arrange an oncology assessment promptly if lymphoma is suspected or already diagnosed and treatment has been delayed. The team may review tissue results, scans, blood tests, symptoms, and overall health before discussing options such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or targeted therapy.
