What does nosebleed feel like with sinusitis?

Nosebleed is a common presentation of Sinusitis and may feel like warm dripping mixed with thick nasal mucus. The nose can feel blocked, tender, dry, or sore, and blood may run from one nostril or toward the throat. Facial pressure, reduced smell, and a bad taste can occur with the underlying nasal inflammation.

Sinusitis can swell the nasal passages and make mucus harder to clear. Inflamed tissue, repeated wiping, forceful blowing, dry air, or nasal sprays used incorrectly may make the surface bleed. Blood-streaked mucus is different from a flow that continues on its own. A nosebleed does not by itself establish that sinusitis is the cause.

Stay seated and lean forward. Pinch the soft part of the nose continuously and breathe through the mouth. Do not blow your nose while bleeding. Once it settles, keep the nose moist with saline if suitable for you, drink fluids, and follow any prescribed sinusitis treatment exactly. Avoid inserting tissues or objects deeply into the nostril.

Seek urgent help if bleeding is heavy, follows an injury, causes faintness or breathing difficulty, or continues despite firm pressure. Arrange assessment for repeated bleeding, one-sided blockage that persists, worsening facial swelling, severe pain, or feeling very unwell. Eye swelling or new vision changes need prompt medical attention.

Ask whether the nasal lining, sinus inflammation, or a nasal spray is causing irritation. Discuss safe ways to clear congestion, whether your symptoms fit sinusitis, and which changes should prompt an urgent review.
