What are the symptoms of Meniere's disease?

Vertigo can feel as though the room is spinning and may arrive suddenly, making walking difficult. Hearing changes often affect one ear and may fluctuate, while ringing or a blocked sensation can remain between episodes. Nausea and vomiting may accompany the dizziness. Similar symptoms can come from other inner-ear or neurological problems, so symptoms alone do not establish the diagnosis.

Sit or lie somewhere safe when spinning begins, avoid driving or climbing, and move slowly as balance returns. Record when episodes start, how long they last, hearing changes, ringing and possible triggers. Arrange a GP consultation for recurring vertigo or new hearing symptoms; a hearing test may help document the pattern.

Seek emergency help for sudden severe headache, facial weakness, difficulty speaking, one-sided weakness, fainting, chest pain, or new inability to walk. Urgent assessment is also needed for sudden hearing loss, especially when it affects one ear.
