What should you know about Vyvanse and dehydration?

The medicine does not make every person dehydrated, and symptoms such as thirst, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, or dark urine can have other causes. Consider the timing of symptoms, your fluid intake, heat exposure, vomiting, diarrhoea, and any other medicines.

Vyvanse may reduce appetite or make you less aware that you have gone a long time without drinking. Dry mouth, nausea, restlessness, or increased activity can also make regular fluids harder to maintain. Hot weather, exercise, fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea can add fluid loss.

Dark urine, passing urine less often, constipation, tiredness, or light-headedness can fit with dehydration, but they do not confirm its cause. A urinary infection, kidney stone, heat exhaustion, or a digestive illness can produce overlapping symptoms.

Take small, regular drinks through the day and keep water available during work, travel, or exercise. If you have been vomiting or have diarrhoea, ask a pharmacist or clinician whether an oral rehydration drink is appropriate. Eat as advised for your health needs, and record when symptoms appear in relation to your Vyvanse dose.

Do not change the dose, skip treatment, or add a replacement product without speaking with the prescriber. Ask for advice if drinking is difficult, symptoms keep returning, or you have a condition that limits fluid intake.

Seek urgent help for confusion, fainting, severe weakness, inability to keep fluids down, very little urine, a fast or irregular heartbeat, or severe abdominal or back pain. Get prompt medical advice for blood in urine, painful urination, fever, persistent vomiting or diarrhoea, or symptoms after marked heat exposure. Do not assume these warning signs are only a medication effect.

Ask whether your symptoms fit dehydration or suggest another problem, how to maintain fluids around your dose and activity, and whether another medicine or illness may be contributing. Tell the prescriber about reduced eating, vomiting, diarrhoea, heat exposure, urine changes, and every medicine or supplement you take.
