What should you know about a urine profile test?

The laboratory may assess colour, clarity, acidity, concentration, protein, glucose, blood and signs of inflammation. The pattern matters more than one isolated finding. Protein or blood can have several explanations, while white cells or nitrite may support a urinary infection when symptoms fit. A result can also be affected by hydration, exercise, menstruation, medicines or how the sample was collected. The test does not identify every cause of urinary change by itself.

Use the clean container supplied by the clinic and follow its collection instructions. A midstream sample is often requested: begin urinating, collect the sample, then finish in the toilet.
