What should you know about trocar bursitis hip?

Short answer
Trochanteric bursitis is irritation of a fluid-filled sac on the outer hip, causing local tenderness and pain with pressure or movement.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Location
- Outer side of the hip
- Common trigger
- Pressure or repeated loading
- Assessment
- Hip, back, gait, strength, and movement may be checked
What is happening
The greater trochanter is the bony prominence at the side of the upper thigh. A bursa near it helps tissues glide, but repeated loading, a knock, altered walking mechanics, or irritation from nearby tendons can make the area painful. Symptoms often increase when lying on that side, climbing stairs, standing from a chair, or walking uphill.
A clinician checks the hip, back, gait, strength, and range of motion because outer-hip pain can have more than one source. Visible joint swelling is not required for this problem.
Ways to settle the irritation
Reduce activities that reliably provoke the pain without stopping all movement. Avoid lying directly on the sore side; a pillow between the knees may reduce pressure. Ice or another comfortable cold pack can be used briefly with a cloth barrier. A clinician may discuss anti-inflammatory medication, physiotherapy, or a cortisone injection based on your health history. Do not self-medicate if you have reasons these medicines may be unsafe.
When to seek care
Arrange an assessment if pain persists, limits sleep, or makes walking difficult. Seek prompt care for fever, marked redness or warmth, rapidly increasing swelling, inability to bear weight after an injury, or new numbness or weakness.
Questions for your doctor
Is the pain coming from the bursa, a tendon, the joint, or the back? Which activities should I modify? Would physiotherapy or an injection fit my situation? What symptoms would mean I should return sooner?

Questions people ask
Can I keep walking with hip bursitis?
Usually, gentle movement is useful if it does not sharply increase pain. Shorter, flatter walks may be better tolerated while the area settles.
Is an injection always needed?
No. Activity changes, symptom relief, and rehabilitation may be enough; an injection is one option when a clinician considers it appropriate.
