Trichomoniasis discharge on toilet paper

You may notice more fluid than usual after wiping, or discharge that looks thin, frothy, yellowish, greenish, or different in smell. Trichomoniasis can also cause vulval redness, itching, soreness, burning with urination, or discomfort during sex. Other people have few or no symptoms.

Toilet paper can change how fluid appears by absorbing moisture, and normal discharge varies through the menstrual cycle. Wash the outside gently with water or mild unscented soap and avoid douching. If testing confirms trichomoniasis, take the prescribed medicine as directed. Ask about partner testing or treatment and avoid sexual contact until your clinician gives you a safe plan.

Seek prompt care for pelvic pain, fever, sores, unexpected bleeding, or painful urination. During pregnancy, report new discharge or irritation to your maternity team. Urgent assessment is needed for severe pain, fainting, heavy bleeding, or symptoms that worsen quickly.

Ask which test will clarify the cause, whether you should be tested for other sexually transmitted infections, how partners are managed, when sex can resume, and what follow-up is needed if the discharge continues.
