What should you know about trainer gait analysis?

Short answer
Trainer gait analysis examines how you walk or run in trainers so movement patterns can guide footwear and rehabilitation decisions.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What is assessed
A clinician may watch your walking or running pattern, compare both sides, and examine stride, foot loading, balance, and joint movement. A pressure plate gait scanner records where force is applied under the feet. Three-dimensional motion capture can show movement at the ankle, knee, hip, and pelvis from several angles.
The results describe movement during the tested task; they do not diagnose every source of pain. A trainer that feels comfortable may still need to be combined with strength, mobility, or technique changes. Custom orthotics may be discussed when foot mechanics and symptoms support that option.
How to prepare
Bring the trainers you use most and wear comfortable clothing that allows the legs to be seen. Tell the assessor about pain, previous injuries, training changes, and the activities you want to resume. Walk or run at a familiar pace, report discomfort as it appears, and use the findings as one part of a broader plan rather than choosing equipment from a scan alone.
When to seek care
Arrange a clinical assessment for persistent pain, repeated falls, marked swelling, or a limp that is worsening. Seek urgent care for sudden weakness, inability to bear weight after injury, severe deformity, or a foot that becomes cold, pale, or numb.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which task will be tested, what finding relates to your symptoms, whether footwear changes are enough, and how progress will be checked after any orthotic or exercise change.

Questions people ask
Does gait analysis choose the perfect trainer?
It can provide useful movement information, but comfort, activity, fit, and clinical findings also matter when selecting footwear.
Will a scan find the cause of pain?
A scan can show loading and movement patterns, but a clinician must interpret them alongside your symptoms and examination.
