What should you know about titanium suture anchor?

The anchor is placed in a prepared area of bone, with sutures attached to it. The surgeon passes the sutures through a torn tendon, ligament or labral tissue and ties or secures them to restore contact with bone. It may be used in shoulder, hip, knee or other repairs. The anchor provides fixation, while the repaired tissue gradually heals; it is not a replacement for the tendon or ligament.

Use the sling, brace or protected weight-bearing plan for the period advised by your surgeon. Early physiotherapy often protects the repair while restoring carefully chosen movement, then adds strength in stages. Do not test the repair by lifting, throwing, deep bending or sudden pulling before clearance. Keep appointments so the team can adjust exercises and check movement, pain and function.

Report increasing wound redness, drainage, fever, escalating swelling, uncontrolled pain, new weakness, or a sudden loss of movement. A fall, forceful pull or popping sensation followed by a marked change in function needs prompt review. Numbness that spreads, a cold limb, chest pain or breathing difficulty requires urgent or emergency assessment.

Ask which tissue was repaired, where the anchor sits, how long protection is needed, and which movements are restricted. Clarify the exercise sequence, sleeping position, wound care, driving and work guidance, and which change in pain or strength would suggest that the repair needs checking.
