What should you know about tiny skin tags on face?

A facial skin tag may be a soft, smooth, flesh-coloured bump attached by a narrow stalk. It can appear near the eyelid, cheek, jawline or neck, where friction from masks, glasses, jewellery or skin folds may irritate it. Facial bumps can also be warts, moles, milia or other lesions. A clinician considers the surface, colour, attachment and history rather than relying on the word skin tag alone.

If the growth is stable and harmless, leaving it alone is reasonable. For a cosmetic or irritation concern, a dermatology clinician can select a removal method that matches the lesion and protects nearby skin. Freezing, electrosurgery or a small snip may be considered. Avoid home scissors, thread, acids and wart medicines on the face, especially near the eye. During healing, use only the recommended cleanser and dressing, and avoid picking, scrubs and unnecessary sun exposure.

Arrange an appointment for a growth that changes quickly, bleeds, becomes tender, develops a sore, or has uneven colour. Seek urgent help for eye swelling, vision changes, severe pain, spreading redness or persistent bleeding after a procedure.
