Telogen Effluvium at the Crown

The crown is easy to notice because overhead light exposes the scalp and a natural hair whorl already separates strands. After a trigger such as illness, surgery, major stress, rapid weight change, or a medication change, diffuse telogen shedding can make this area look more open. The hairline and sides may also shed, even when the crown attracts most attention.

Crown thinning that gradually follows a consistent pattern, a widening part, miniaturised hairs, smooth patches, scale, or inflammation may indicate another process or more than one contributor.
