What should you know about a Technocare ECG machine?

The device displays and stores the tracing produced by the test. A healthcare professional reviews that tracing alongside your symptoms, medical history, examination and any other tests. The machine supports assessment; it does not provide a diagnosis on its own.

An ECG can help identify whether the heartbeat is regular, how fast it is, and whether the electrical signal follows the expected pathway. It may also show patterns that prompt further assessment, such as changes associated with reduced blood flow to heart muscle or strain on the heart.

A normal-looking tracing does not explain every episode of chest discomfort, breathlessness or palpitations. Some changes occur intermittently, so a clinician may consider a longer monitor or another test when symptoms are not present during the recording.

Wear clothing that allows access to your chest, wrists and ankles, and tell the clinician about medicines, implanted devices, skin sensitivity or chest hair that may affect sensor placement. You may be asked to rest quietly before and during the recording.

Small adhesive sensors are placed on the skin and connected to the machine by wires. Stay still and breathe normally while the tracing is recorded. The test does not send electricity into your body; removing the stickers may cause brief skin discomfort, especially if your skin is sensitive.

Seek emergency help for chest pressure or pain that is severe, persistent or spreading to the arm, back, neck or jaw, particularly when it occurs with sweating, nausea, fainting or shortness of breath. Sudden severe breathlessness, collapse or a new fast or irregular heartbeat with dizziness also needs urgent assessment.

Do not delay care while arranging an ECG appointment if these symptoms are happening now. An ECG is one part of an urgent evaluation, and the clinical team may need to repeat it or perform additional tests.

Ask what prompted the ECG, whether the tracing was recorded while you had symptoms, and when you should expect the result. You can also ask whether medicines, electrolyte problems or a recent illness could affect the reading, and whether monitoring over a longer period is appropriate if episodes continue.
