Syringoma on the forehead: what to know

On the forehead, syringomas may look like smooth, firm, skin-coloured or lightly yellow bumps. They can occur alone or as several similar papules and may be easier to notice under bright light or when the skin is stretched. A syringoma is not the same as acne, although the two can be confused. A dermatologist uses the pattern, texture and history to assess it; a biopsy may be considered when the appearance is atypical. If the bumps are confirmed as syringomas and do not bother you, monitoring is a valid choice. The best fit depends on the number of bumps, their depth, your tendency toward pigment changes and the desired balance between clearance and healing. Avoid squeezing, needles and unlabelled acid products. Gentle cleansing and careful sun protection support the skin barrier, while prescribed aftercare should take priority after a procedure.

Have a forehead bump examined if it changes rapidly, becomes painful, bleeds, crusts repeatedly, develops an open sore or looks unlike the others. If a treated area becomes increasingly hot, swollen, painful or produces discharge, contact the treating clinic. A change deserves assessment even when nearby syringomas have been stable.
