Symptoms of dengue: Hindi guide

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection. A person may have a high fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, aching muscles and joints, chills, nausea or a rash. These symptoms overlap with other infections, so they do not establish dengue on their own.

Watch for easy bruising, bleeding from the nose or gums, blood in vomit or stool, strong abdominal pain, or repeated vomiting. The risk picture can change as fever decreases, so continue observing symptoms after the temperature falls.

Rest and take frequent drinks. Note when the fever began, how often you pass urine and any new symptom. Ask a pharmacist or clinician which fever medicine is suitable; do not take aspirin or ibuprofen unless a clinician advises it. Use mosquito repellent, long sleeves and window screens while unwell.

Book a GP Consultation if dengue is possible, particularly after travel or mosquito bites in a dengue area. Take your medicine list and travel details to the appointment.

Seek urgent care for bleeding, severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, trouble breathing, fainting, confusion, unusual drowsiness, cold clammy skin or inability to drink. Reduced urination can signal dehydration and also needs prompt assessment.
