Short answer

A FUE hair transplant moves individual follicular units to thinning areas, but suitability depends on diagnosis, donor supply, scalp health, and realistic planning.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How FUE fits into hair restoration

Follicular unit extraction, or FUE, involves removing individual follicular units from a donor region and placing them into prepared recipient sites. The result depends on the reason for loss, the stability of ongoing thinning, donor density, hair characteristics, and the design of the hairline. Male pattern hair loss and female pattern hair loss may be considered, while active scalp inflammation or traction-related damage needs careful assessment first. A transplant redistributes existing follicles; it does not create new donor hair.

Planning and aftercare

Before treatment, ask for a scalp examination, diagnosis, donor-area assessment, and a discussion of hairline design and future loss. Tell the clinician about medicines, bleeding problems, allergies, and previous procedures. Afterward, follow instructions for washing, sleeping, exercise, sun exposure, and touching the grafts. Temporary redness, swelling, crusting, and shedding can occur during recovery. Some people discuss PRP for hair loss or scalp micropigmentation as separate options, depending on their goals and diagnosis.

When to seek care

Contact the treating team for worsening pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, heavy bleeding, or swelling that affects breathing or vision. Arrange review if grafts are repeatedly disturbed, the donor area develops unusual scarring, or hair loss continues in untreated areas. Sudden bald patches or a rapidly receding hairline should be assessed before choosing surgery because the underlying cause may need treatment.

Questions for your doctor

What type of hair loss do I have? Is it stable enough for a transplant? How will you assess donor density and protect the donor area? What density and hairline design are realistic for me? Which medicines or non-surgical options should I consider before and after treatment?

Questions people ask

Is FUE suitable for every type of hair loss?

No. Suitability depends on the cause and stability of loss, donor supply, scalp condition, and the goals discussed during assessment.

Does a transplant stop future hair loss?

No. It redistributes follicles to selected areas. Existing non-transplanted hair may continue to thin and may need a separate management plan.
