Stye in the middle of the eyelid

A central eyelid stye may look like a small red bump surrounded by puffiness. It can be sore to touch, feel gritty during blinking, and cause watering or mild crusting. The exact position does not by itself show how serious the problem is; symptoms such as vision change or spreading redness matter more.

Sometimes a tender stye becomes less painful but leaves a firm lump. That pattern can fit a blocked oil gland and should be checked if it persists or affects the eyelid.

Use a clean warm compress over the closed eyelid for several minutes, repeating it regularly during the day. Wash hands before and after care. Keep the area free from eye makeup and contact lenses, and do not rub, lance, or squeeze the swelling.

Arrange a clinical review when swelling continues to increase, redness spreads, the eyelid closes, or the eye becomes painful rather than simply tender. Changes in vision, marked light sensitivity, fever, severe pain, or difficulty moving the eye require urgent care.
