Contact your surgical team promptly if the incision becomes increasingly red, hot, swollen, or painful; fluid or pus appears; the wound opens; or you develop a fever or feel suddenly unwell. Report calf pain or swelling, new shortness of breath, chest pain, or coughing blood urgently, because these symptoms can signal a serious complication.

Seek urgent assessment after a fall, a sudden inability to bear weight, a new deformity, or severe pain that does not settle with the plan provided. New numbness, a cold or unusually pale foot, or loss of movement also needs prompt medical attention.
