What should you know about solid state diode laser?

A diode laser creates light from a semiconductor material. The handpiece delivers energy to a selected area, where pigment absorbs part of that energy and converts it to heat. In hair treatment, the goal is to heat the follicle while protecting nearby skin with suitable settings and cooling.

Results depend on hair colour, thickness, growth cycle, skin tone, treatment area and device settings. Hair may shed after treatment, but follicles can respond at different stages, so a treatment plan commonly includes more than one visit.

Tell the clinician about tanning, recent skin irritation, medicines that increase light sensitivity and any history of pigment changes or scarring. Follow instructions about shaving, avoiding waxing and protecting the area from sun.

After treatment, mild warmth, redness or follicle swelling can occur. Use gentle skin care, avoid unnecessary heat or friction and do not pick at irritated follicles. Follow the clinic's advice before applying active products or returning to other hair-removal methods.

Contact the clinic if redness, pain, swelling or blistering is worsening, or if the treated skin develops marked lightening or darkening. Seek prompt medical advice for extensive blistering, signs of infection or an eye symptom after treatment near the face.

Ask which diode wavelength and cooling method will be used, how your skin and hair characteristics affect the plan, and what side effects need review. Ask about preparation, aftercare and alternatives if the hair is very light or the skin is recently tanned.
