What should you know about Similasan stye?

A stye often appears as a painful red bump near the edge of the eyelid. The lid may feel swollen, gritty, or sensitive, and a small amount of discharge can collect around the lashes. It is different from a deeper, usually less tender eyelid lump. A stye is generally limited to one area, but redness can spread across the lid.

Wash your hands before touching the eye. Hold a clean, comfortably warm compress over the closed eyelid for several minutes, repeating this through the day, and gently clean away any crusting. Do not squeeze or pierce the bump, share towels, or use eye makeup or contact lenses while the eye is irritated. If you are considering Similasan or another eye product, check its label and ask a pharmacist whether it is suitable for your symptoms; products should not replace an assessment when symptoms are severe or unusual.

Arrange prompt medical care for worsening swelling, marked pain, fever, vision changes, pain with eye movement, light sensitivity, or redness spreading beyond the eyelid. Seek urgent help if the eye becomes difficult to open or vision is affected. A GP can examine the lid and decide whether treatment or referral is needed.
