What may be happening

A bursa is a small fluid-filled sac that helps tissues glide near a joint. Around the outer hip, irritation can cause tenderness when pressing the area, lying on that side, climbing stairs, or walking. Pain may also be felt along the outside of the thigh and can resemble a tendon or joint problem.
