What should you know about semiconductor laser diode?

A semiconductor diode is the light-producing component inside some dermatology lasers. Its wavelength and pulse settings are selected for the treatment goal, skin tone, hair characteristics, and treatment area. In hair reduction, pigment in the hair absorbs the light and converts it to heat around the follicle, which can reduce future growth. The device does not remove every hair immediately, because hairs respond differently according to their growth phase.

Cooling or contact with the skin may be used to make treatment more comfortable and protect the surface. A diode laser is a technology, not a diagnosis or a guarantee of a particular result.

Tell the clinician about recent tanning, medicines that increase light sensitivity, cold sore history, scarring tendencies, and any active rash or infection. Follow instructions about shaving and avoid waxing or plucking when the follicle needs to remain present for treatment. Afterward, expect temporary warmth or redness in the treated area. Use gentle skin care and protect the area from strong sunlight as advised. The clinician may plan a course of visits because follicles are not all active at the same time.

Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain is worsening, blisters or open areas develop, swelling spreads, or the skin changes markedly in colour. Seek urgent care for facial swelling with breathing difficulty or widespread hives. A new rash, pus, or increasing tenderness can signal infection and should be assessed rather than treated at home.
