Short answer

Salt may raise blood pressure in some people, but increasing it without medical advice can worsen fluid retention or other conditions and may miss the real cause.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why low pressure needs context

Low blood pressure can be normal for one person and concerning for another. It may occur with dehydration, blood loss, infection, certain medicines, hormonal problems, or changes in posture. Salt can make the body retain more fluid, but that response is not appropriate for everyone, especially people with heart or kidney problems.

Dizziness, blurred vision, weakness, nausea, and fainting can occur when blood pressure falls or when another problem affects circulation. Dizziness does not identify the cause by itself, so a proper history, examination, and medicine review are useful.

Safer next steps

Sit or lie down when light-headed, rise slowly, and avoid driving while symptoms are active. Drink fluids if you can and have not been given a fluid restriction. Do not begin salt tablets or heavily salted foods without a clinician’s plan. Keep a record of symptoms, posture, meals, fluid intake, and medicines to discuss at a GP consultation.

When to seek care

Arrange medical review for repeated dizziness, fainting, falls, new palpitations, or symptoms that follow a medicine change. Seek emergency help after collapse, with chest pain, severe breathlessness, new confusion, weakness on one side, or ongoing bleeding. Immediate assessment is also needed if you cannot keep fluids down or feel increasingly unwell.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether your blood pressure is low for a meaningful reason, whether any medicine contributes, and whether extra salt or fluid is suitable for you. Bring home readings and describe when dizziness occurs, particularly after standing or eating.

No. Extra salt may be unsuitable with heart, kidney, or fluid-balance problems and should follow medical advice.

Is dizziness proof that my blood pressure is low?

No. Dizziness has many possible causes and needs context, examination, and sometimes blood-pressure checks.
