What should you know about rosacea and eyes?

Eye involvement may appear with or without obvious facial redness. The eyelid edges can become inflamed, and the eyes may water, feel dry, or seem gritty. Burning, redness, crusting around lashes, blurred vision, or discomfort in bright light can occur. These symptoms overlap with blepharitis, dry-eye disease, infection, and other eye conditions, so they should not be self-diagnosed from a facial flare alone. Persistent inflammation can irritate the eye surface and deserves professional assessment.

Avoid rubbing your eyes and pause eye makeup or contact lenses if they worsen discomfort. Clean eyelid margins gently as advised by an eye professional, and avoid putting facial creams close to the eye unless the product is specifically intended for that area. Artificial tears may be suitable for some people, but a pharmacist or clinician can help choose them. A dermatologist and optometrist or ophthalmologist can coordinate care when both facial and eye symptoms are present.

Seek prompt eye care for eye pain, new blurred or reduced vision, strong light sensitivity, marked redness, or a feeling that something is stuck in the eye. Urgent help is needed for sudden vision change, severe pain, or swelling that affects breathing. Do not wait for facial treatment to improve a concerning eye symptom.
