What should you know about right heart failure causes?

The right ventricle sends blood toward the lungs. If resistance in the lung vessels rises, it has to pump against greater pressure and may eventually weaken. Left-sided Heart Failure can also raise pressure backward into the lungs and strain the right side. Long-standing Hypertension, valve disease, congenital heart problems, and damage to heart muscle may contribute. A rhythm problem such as Atrial Fibrillation can reduce efficient filling and pumping. Arrange a clinical review if swelling, breathlessness, reduced exercise tolerance, or unusual tiredness is developing.
