What should you know about random stretch marks?

Short answer
Random stretch marks are lines caused by changes in skin stretching and elasticity, and they can appear even without an obvious recent weight change.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why stretch marks appear
Stretch marks, or striae, form when deeper layers of skin are stretched faster than the supporting tissue can adapt. Early marks may look pink, red, purple, or darker than nearby skin and may feel slightly itchy; older marks often become lighter and flatter. Growth during puberty, pregnancy, muscle gain, weight change, and inherited skin characteristics can all contribute. Hormonal conditions or prolonged use of strong corticosteroid medicines can also be relevant, especially when marks are widespread or accompanied by other body changes.
What you can do
Moisturiser can reduce dryness and itch but cannot reliably erase established marks. Photographing the area in consistent lighting helps you notice gradual change. If appearance concerns you, a dermatologist can assess the stage, skin tone, location, and any relevant medicines before discussing treatment. Options may include Microneedling, Fractional Laser Treatment, RF Microneedling, or Carboxytherapy. These procedures work differently, usually require a planned course, and may improve texture or colour rather than remove every trace.
When to seek care
Book a medical review if marks appear rapidly across several areas without a clear explanation, are unusually broad or deep, or occur with easy bruising, muscle weakness, marked fatigue, or changes in menstrual pattern. Mention any prescribed or non-prescribed steroid products. Seek care sooner for severe pain, open skin, or signs of infection rather than treating the area only as a cosmetic concern.
Questions for your doctor
Do these lines fit ordinary stretch marks? Could a medicine or hormone problem be contributing? Which option suits my skin and the age of the marks? What improvement is realistic, and what aftercare will I need?

Questions people ask
Can stretch marks appear when weight has not changed?
Yes. Growth, muscle changes, hormones, inherited skin characteristics, and medicines can affect the skin even when body weight seems stable.
Can treatment remove stretch marks completely?
Treatments may soften their colour or texture, but complete removal cannot be promised.
