Short answer

Puberty pimples are common because hormonal changes increase oil and blockage in hair follicles, but steady care can help.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why pimples appear

During puberty, hormone signals can make oil glands more active. Extra oil, shed skin cells, and bacteria may collect inside follicles, producing blackheads, whiteheads, red bumps, or pus-filled spots. Pimples may affect the face, chest, shoulders, or back. They are not caused by poor hygiene, and scrubbing hard can irritate the skin.

Not every bump is acne. Folliculitis can look like small, similar bumps around hairs, while irritation around the mouth or persistent facial flushing can point to another condition. A clinician can distinguish these patterns.

A routine that helps

Wash gently twice daily and after heavy sweating, using lukewarm water and a non-comedogenic moisturiser. Avoid squeezing, picking, rough scrubs, and sharing medicines. A pharmacist or clinician can suggest an acne treatment suited to your age and skin; apply it consistently and expect gradual improvement rather than instant change. Wash pillowcases, keep hair products away from the face, and use sunscreen that does not clog pores.

When to seek care

Arrange medical advice for painful deep lumps, scarring, widespread acne, or pimples that affect sleep, confidence, or school life. Seek help if a rash is rapidly spreading, very swollen, blistered, or accompanied by fever. A clinician can also review acne that has not improved with a careful routine.

Questions for your doctor

Ask which type of acne you have, when improvement should be assessed, how to prevent dark marks, and which ingredients or products may irritate your skin. If periods are irregular or excess hair growth is present, ask whether hormonal factors need review.
