Psoriasis dry scalp treatment: what to know

Scalp psoriasis is driven by inflammation, so moisturising alone may ease tightness without controlling the condition. A clinician may recommend a topical anti-inflammatory, a scale-lifting preparation, or another scalp treatment. Thick scale can prevent medicine reaching the skin; softening it first can improve contact. The hair, hairline, ears, and face may need different products because these areas respond differently and can be more sensitive.

Apply only the recommended amount to the affected skin, parting the hair to reach the scalp. Follow instructions about timing, washing, and stopping; do not extend a strong anti-inflammatory course without review. Avoid forcefully removing flakes, and use a bland moisturiser on nearby dry skin if advised. Tell the clinician about pregnancy, other medicines, previous reactions, and whether the treatment causes burning or thinning skin. Recheck the plan if improvement fades quickly after stopping.

Contact a clinician if symptoms worsen, treatment causes marked burning, soreness, oozing, crusting, or skin changes, or the scalp becomes difficult to manage. Prompt assessment is appropriate for fever, rapidly spreading redness, or painful swelling.
