Pregnancy Skin Tags: What to Know

A skin tag is a small piece of soft tissue that often hangs from a narrow stalk. During pregnancy, hormonal changes and increased friction can make tags more noticeable around the neck, underarms, breasts, groin, or other skin folds. They can catch on clothing or jewellery and become sore after rubbing.

A typical tag is flesh-coloured or slightly darker and changes slowly. Not every bump is a skin tag, however. A mole, wart, cyst, or another lesion can look similar, so self-diagnosis is unreliable when the appearance is unusual.

Keep the area clean and dry, choose loose breathable clothing, and avoid cutting, tying, burning, or applying household chemicals to the growth. Reduce friction where possible and cover a tag lightly if it repeatedly catches, without wrapping it tightly.

If it is not troublesome, monitoring is reasonable after a clinician has confirmed what it is. Discuss any removal during pregnancy before booking treatment.
