Can you have a normal delivery with preeclampsia?

A vaginal birth may be considered when blood pressure is controllable, there are no signs of serious organ problems, and monitoring remains reassuring. Preeclampsia can change the timing or setting of birth, even when labour is possible. The team may recommend induction so that birth can start in a controlled environment. During labour, staff may check blood pressure often, watch for symptoms, monitor the baby, and give prescribed medicines.

A Caesarean Section may be advised if urgent birth is needed, labour is not suitable, or the condition is affecting you or the baby. The decision is individual and can change as findings develop.

Attend every recommended review and keep a record of symptoms and home readings if your clinician has asked you to measure them. Ask where to go if labour begins, what medicines to take, and whether induction is planned. Seek urgent maternity care for a severe headache, blurred vision or flashing lights, upper abdominal pain, sudden facial swelling, breathlessness, a seizure, or noticeably reduced baby movements. Do not wait for a scheduled appointment if these occur. Bring your medication list and pregnancy notes if it is safe to do so.
