Post-Laser Hyperpigmentation

Laser energy can stimulate pigment production when skin is inflamed, especially after crusting, excess heat, or sun exposure during healing. The colour may look brown, grey, or deeper than the surrounding skin. It is different from an untreated pigment condition, although both can appear as dark patches.

Pause additional laser, peeling, scrubbing, and fragranced products until a clinician confirms that the surface has healed. Use gentle cleansing, moisturise as advised, and protect the area from daylight with shade, clothing, and a broad-spectrum sunscreen suitable for your skin. Do not pick scabs. Arrange prompt medical review if darkening is spreading, blistering, increasingly painful, warm, oozing, or accompanied by marked swelling. Seek urgent care for facial swelling affecting breathing, severe pain, fever, or rapidly worsening redness. These changes can indicate a burn, infection, or another problem rather than pigment alone.
