Pink eye solution

Pink eye, also called conjunctivitis, can follow infection, allergy, or exposure to an irritant. Redness and watering may occur in all of these situations, while sticky eye discharge may point toward infection. It is not safe to assume that an antibiotic or a redness-relief product will help. Some redness-relief drops can mask ongoing irritation, and non-sterile liquids may introduce germs or damage the eye.

Clean the eyelids gently with clean water and a fresh pad, wash your hands often, and use a cool compress for discomfort. Keep personal towels and cosmetics separate, replace eye makeup used during the illness, and avoid rubbing. Do not share drops, use homemade mixtures, or put tap water directly into a contact lens case. A GP consultation can identify whether supportive care is enough or whether antibiotic treatment has a role.

Get prompt medical care for pain, light sensitivity, reduced vision, a foreign body, an eye injury, or symptoms in a contact-lens wearer. Seek urgent help for sudden vision loss or severe pain. A clinician should also review symptoms that spread, worsen, or fail to settle, especially when discharge is heavy or the eye is difficult to open.
