Pimples during pregnancy: what to know

Short answer
Pimples can change during pregnancy, but every acne product should be checked for pregnancy suitability before use.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why breakouts may change
Hormonal shifts can increase oil production and clog pores, causing red spots or tender bumps on the face, chest or back. Similar-looking bumps can come from folliculitis, perioral dermatitis or rosacea, so location, itch, burning and scaling matter. New facial spots do not by themselves identify one condition.
Your pregnancy stage, medical history and current medicines affect treatment choices. Tell the clinician about prescribed creams, supplements and products bought without a prescription.
Gentle steps
Cleanse with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free product. Use a non-comedogenic moisturiser and sunscreen, avoid picking, and pause harsh peels or strong scrubbing. Before using an acne wash, cream, oral medicine or device, ask your obstetric and dermatology teams whether it is appropriate. Keep the routine simple so irritation is easier to recognise. Light-based treatment may be discussed in some situations, but it still needs professional selection.
When to contact a clinician
Book an assessment if breakouts are painful, widespread, leaving scars, or not settling with gentle care. Seek prompt help for rapidly spreading redness, marked warmth, pus with worsening pain, facial swelling or fever. Contact your maternity team for advice about any product exposure that concerns you; do not stop a prescribed medicine without asking the prescriber.

Questions people ask
Can pregnancy cause pimples?
Yes. Hormonal changes may increase oil and pore blockage, although other skin conditions can resemble acne.
Can I use my old acne cream?
Check its ingredients with your maternity or dermatology clinician before restarting it, even if it helped before pregnancy.
