Pimples after shaving the face

Small red bumps centred on hairs and appearing soon after shaving fit razor bumps or folliculitis. Whiteheads, blackheads and spots in areas that were not shaved may fit acne. Burning and a rash around the mouth can have another cause, such as perioral dermatitis. Persistent flushing with bumps may point toward rosacea. Hormonal acne can flare in a recurring pattern around the jaw or lower face; shaving may make existing lesions more noticeable rather than cause them.

Pause shaving over active bumps and wash with a gentle cleanser. When you resume, soften the hair with warm water, use shaving gel, shave in the direction of growth with light pressure and avoid repeated passes. Use a clean sharp razor and do not share it. Apply a bland, fragrance-free moisturiser afterwards, and avoid picking or aggressive exfoliation. If bumps recur despite technique changes, a dermatologist can check for acne, folliculitis or razor bumps and tailor treatment. LED light therapy may be discussed for selected acne plans, but it does not replace diagnosis.

Arrange an examination if bumps are painful, pus-filled, spreading, repeatedly returning or leaving dark marks or scars. Seek prompt care for rapidly increasing redness, facial swelling, fever, eye involvement or severe tenderness. Get urgent help for breathing difficulty or widespread blistering after a product.
