FDG Radiotracer is taken up by metabolically active cells. When inflammation is active in a vessel wall, the pattern may be visible on PET images, while the CT portion shows anatomy. A specialist considers the distribution and intensity of activity with symptoms, examination, blood tests, and other imaging. Treatment can change inflammatory activity, so the timing of a scan matters. A scan may support assessment or monitoring, but a quiet scan does not explain every symptom and an active pattern can have causes other than vasculitis.

Follow the centre’s instructions about fasting, exercise, medicines, and blood sugar. Tell the team about diabetes, pregnancy or breastfeeding, infection symptoms, and recent treatment changes. You will usually rest after tracer administration and must remain still during image acquisition. Keep the follow-up appointment to review the images with laboratory results.
