How bleeding may change

During the menopause transition, ovulation may not happen regularly. This can affect the build-up and shedding of the womb lining, leading to heavier, longer, closer, or delayed periods. Fibroids, polyps, pregnancy-related problems, thyroid conditions, bleeding disorders, and changes in medicines can also cause heavy bleeding. Assessment helps distinguish these possibilities.
