What should you know about penyebab stretch marks?

Short answer

Stretch marks develop when skin stretches or changes quickly, causing deeper skin fibres to remodel and leave visible lines.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why stretch marks appear

Stretch marks, also called striae, may begin as pink, red, purple, or brown lines and often become lighter and less prominent over time. They commonly arise during pregnancy, puberty, rapid weight change, or muscle growth. Hormonal changes can make skin more prone to them, and some people inherit a tendency to develop them. Long-term use of corticosteroid creams or tablets, or uncommon hormonal conditions, can also contribute. Stretch marks are not caused by poor hygiene and are not contagious.

What you can do

Keep skin comfortable with a bland moisturiser, avoid intentional rapid weight changes, and use sun protection so contrast between the mark and surrounding skin is less noticeable. Moisturisers may relieve dryness but cannot reliably remove established marks. A dermatologist can discuss options such as Microneedling, Fractional Laser Treatment, RF Microneedling, or Carboxytherapy. Choice depends on the mark’s age and colour, body area, skin tone, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and tolerance for downtime. Several appointments may be needed, and improvement is gradual rather than immediate.

When to seek care

Arrange a medical assessment if wide stretch marks appear suddenly without a clear growth, pregnancy, or weight-related explanation, especially with easy bruising, muscle weakness, facial rounding, or other new hormonal symptoms. Seek prompt advice for marks that are painful, bleeding, ulcerated, or associated with a spreading rash. A dermatologist can examine the skin and review medicines, including steroid use.

Questions for your doctor

Which treatment suits the colour, age, and location of my marks? What improvement is realistic for my skin tone? How should I prepare, and how long might redness or peeling last? Should I postpone treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
