A clinician may consider threads for subtle skin laxity or a small change in the outer brow or lower-eye contour. The intended effect comes from mechanical support and the body's response around the absorbable material. Threads do not remove eyelid skin, treat prominent fat pads, correct significant eyelid drooping, or replace treatment for a medical eye condition.

Because the skin is thin and the eye is nearby, placement requires detailed knowledge of the anatomy. Bruising, swelling, tenderness, unevenness, dimpling, infection, thread visibility, or movement can occur. Temporary puffiness may make the eyes look different during early healing, and the final appearance should be assessed after the tissues settle.
