Pain After Ectopic Pregnancy Surgery

After keyhole surgery, soreness around the cuts, abdominal tenderness, bloating, or shoulder discomfort from the gas used during the procedure can occur while the body heals. Open surgery may cause a larger wound and a longer recovery. Pain should generally become easier to manage rather than steadily intensify.

Pain can also come from infection, bleeding, constipation, urinary problems, or pelvic inflammation. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease may cause pelvic pain with fever or unusual discharge. Your operation type matters, including whether a Salpingectomy was performed.

Follow the discharge instructions, keep wounds clean and dry as advised, walk gently, and avoid lifting or sex until your surgical team says it is appropriate. Take prescribed medicines as directed, and do not add a new medicine without checking its suitability.

Keep a simple record of pain location, severity, wound changes, temperature, bleeding, bowel movements, and urination. Contact the surgical team if pain is not settling, limits movement, or returns after improving. A Transvaginal Ultrasound may be considered if pelvic symptoms need investigation.

Seek urgent care for severe or rapidly increasing pain, fainting, heavy vaginal bleeding, fever, repeated vomiting, shortness of breath, a swollen abdomen, or a wound that is opening, very red, or draining pus. These symptoms should not wait for a routine postoperative visit.

Ask what level of soreness is expected for your operation, when you can resume normal activities, and which symptoms should trigger a same-day call. Ask whether your follow-up needs examination, pregnancy testing, or imaging.
