When ovulation is more painful than a period

Ovulation can briefly irritate the pelvic lining as an egg is released. The pain may be one-sided and can feel sharper than menstrual cramping. A stronger pattern can also occur with endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease or an ovarian endometrioma. A symptom does not identify one diagnosis by itself.
