What should you know about oral rehydration therapy solution?

The solution combines water with measured glucose and electrolytes. This combination supports absorption through the intestine, which is useful when diarrhoea, vomiting, food poisoning, gastroenteritis, or heat exhaustion has caused losses. It supports hydration; it does not treat every underlying infection or remove the reason fluid loss started.

A sachet is mixed with the exact amount of safe water stated on its label. The water volume is part of the treatment: changing it changes the concentration of the ingredients.

Prepare the drink in a clean container and offer small sips often. Someone who feels nauseated may manage a sip every few minutes better than a full glass. Continue breastfeeding and ordinary food as tolerated. Replace the mixture as directed rather than storing it beyond the product's recommended period.

Do not add juice, soft drinks, extra salt, or extra sugar. If the person has kidney disease, heart disease, or another condition affecting fluid balance, obtain tailored advice before using large amounts.

Arrange urgent assessment for severe or increasing dizziness, confusion, fainting, marked weakness, inability to drink, ongoing vomiting, very little urine, blood in vomit or stool, or difficulty breathing. A child, older adult, or medically vulnerable person should be reviewed promptly if fluid losses continue.
