The panel may include enzymes such as ALT, AST, ALP and GGT, together with bilirubin, albumin, and other measures. These markers reflect different processes, including irritation of liver cells, bile flow, and the liver’s protein-making function. A normal panel is reassuring, but it cannot answer every question about liver structure or infection.

Interpretation depends on symptoms, alcohol use, medicines, supplements, previous results, and conditions such as Alcohol Use Disorder or viral hepatitis. A clinician may compare the pattern and trend rather than relying on a single report.

Keep a copy of the report and list every medicine, supplement, and non-prescription product you use. Follow preparation instructions for any repeat test. If the test was ordered because of symptoms or a known condition, keep the follow-up appointment even when the result is within range. Seek urgent care for yellow skin or eyes with severe abdominal pain, confusion, vomiting blood, black stools, or unusual drowsiness.
