Microdermabrasion removes a superficial layer of dead skin cells using an abrasive tip or fine crystals, with suction helping clear loosened material. A newer device may offer different tips, vacuum control, or monitoring features. Those changes can affect how aggressively the skin is treated, but they do not make every skin type suitable for exfoliation.

The treatment may temporarily smooth rough texture and make the surface look brighter. It does not remove deep scars, active infection, or every type of pigmentation. A chemical peel is another exfoliation approach, using a selected solution rather than mechanical abrasion.

Tell the clinician about active acne, eczema, rosacea, cold sores, recent sun exposure, open skin, keloid scars, and medicines that increase sensitivity. Ask which tip and suction level will be used and whether a small test area is appropriate. Avoid booking over irritated or sunburned skin.

After treatment, use gentle cleanser, moisturiser, and sun protection as advised. Mild redness, tightness, or sensitivity can occur. Pause scrubs, waxing, and strong active products until the skin has recovered according to the clinic’s instructions.

Contact the provider if redness intensifies, pain becomes marked, blisters form, swelling persists, or the skin develops discharge or pronounced darkening. Prompt review is useful when irritation follows a new device or a stronger setting than usual.
