A clinician may adjust fluence, pulse duration, spot size, repetition rate, or cooling. These choices influence how deeply energy travels, how much heat reaches the target, and how the surrounding skin responds. A setting that suits hair reduction may not suit a vascular mark, pigment concern, or nail problem.

The device is often described as a 1064nm or long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The number on a screen is not a quality grade, and a higher setting is not automatically more effective. Skin tone, hair or pigment colour, treatment area, recent tanning, and the purpose of the session all affect the selection.

Before treatment, share your skin history, medicines, tendency to scar, recent sun exposure, and any active rash or infection in the area. Ask which setting changes are planned and what the clinician will use to protect the skin. Follow the clinic's instructions about shaving, skincare products, and sun avoidance.

During a session, expect eye protection and a cooling method when appropriate. Mild warmth, redness, or swelling can occur afterward. Keep the area clean, avoid picking at crusting, and use the recommended sunscreen or aftercare.

Contact the treating clinic if pain is increasing, blisters develop, swelling spreads, or the treated skin becomes increasingly hot or oozes. Prompt assessment is also sensible when a new dark or pale patch persists instead of settling, particularly after treatment on a visible area.
