Short answer

Nausea and tiredness can be common in pregnancy, but severe sickness, dehydration or unusual fatigue should be assessed by a healthcare professional.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Seek help when vomiting prevents fluids or normal activity.

What these symptoms may mean

Hormonal changes in early pregnancy can affect appetite, sleep and energy, while nausea may occur at any time of day. Tiredness may also be worsened by poor intake, interrupted sleep or emotional strain. Dehydration can follow frequent vomiting. Anaemia, Coeliac Disease, COVID-19 and Chronic Kidney Disease are among other conditions a clinician may consider when fatigue is marked, persistent or accompanied by additional symptoms. Alcohol Use Disorder and Burnout can also affect wellbeing, but symptoms overlap and cannot be sorted reliably without context.

Ways to support yourself

Rest when possible, rise slowly, and keep water nearby. Small, frequent meals and plain foods may be easier to manage than large meals; avoid smells that trigger nausea. Keep a simple record of fluids, vomiting, food intake and energy. Take only medicines, supplements or herbal products confirmed as suitable for pregnancy. Arrange antenatal care or a clinician visit to discuss testing, nutrition and safe treatment if symptoms are limiting daily activities.

When to seek care

Seek urgent help if you cannot keep fluids down, pass very little urine, feel faint, have severe abdominal pain, fever, confusion, chest pain, breathlessness, vaginal bleeding or a severe headache. Contact your maternity team or doctor promptly if vomiting is frequent, weight is falling, fatigue is suddenly much worse, or you are unable to work, eat or perform ordinary tasks.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether your symptoms fit the stage of pregnancy, how to prevent dehydration, and whether blood tests should check anaemia or another cause of fatigue. Share your pregnancy dates, fluid intake, vomiting pattern, medicines and any bleeding, pain or fever.
