Mute snoring device

Short answer
A device may reduce snoring by changing jaw or tongue position, but the right choice depends on the cause and whether obstructive sleep apnoea is present.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How can a snoring device work?
A mandibular advancement device gently holds the lower jaw forward to help keep the upper airway open. Nasal dilators or strips may help when congestion narrows the nose, but they do not treat obstruction deeper in the throat. Poorly fitted mouth devices can cause jaw discomfort, tooth movement, dry mouth, or bite changes, so dental and medical assessment can be useful.
Snoring may be associated with allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, weight-related airway narrowing, or obstructive sleep apnoea. Loud snoring alone cannot show which cause is present.
How should you try one safely?
Ask a clinician or qualified dentist whether the device suits your teeth, jaw, breathing pattern, and health history. Follow fitting and cleaning instructions, begin gradually, and stop if you develop persistent pain, numbness, damaged teeth, or a changed bite. Sleeping on your side, limiting alcohol near bedtime, and treating nasal blockage may also reduce snoring. Weight management may help some people when excess weight contributes to airway narrowing.
When does snoring need medical review?
Arrange assessment for witnessed pauses in breathing, choking or gasping during sleep, morning headaches, marked daytime sleepiness, poor concentration, or high blood pressure. Seek urgent help for severe breathing difficulty while awake or chest pain. A device should not be used to mask possible sleep apnoea without evaluation.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your symptoms suggest sleep apnoea, whether a sleep study is needed, which device is suitable, and how its effect will be checked.

Questions people ask
Will a snoring device cure the cause?
It may reduce sound while worn, but it does not address every cause and should not replace assessment for sleep apnoea.
Can nasal strips help?
They may help when nasal blockage contributes to snoring, but they cannot open an obstructed throat.
