What should you know about mites on face rosacea?

Short answer
Facial mites can live in normal skin, while an increased mite burden may contribute to inflammation in some people with rosacea.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What mites and rosacea mean
Demodex mites are microscopic organisms associated with hair follicles and oil glands. Their presence alone does not prove rosacea or mean that poor hygiene caused symptoms. Rosacea is a skin condition that may cause persistent or flushing redness, burning, sensitivity, roughness, or acne-like pimples on the central face.
A clinician may consider mite-related inflammation when symptoms are concentrated around follicles, the skin is unusually rough or sensitive, or standard rosacea patterns are present. Diagnosis is based on the skin examination and history, not on seeing mites at home.
Steps that may help
Use a gentle cleanser, lukewarm water, bland moisturiser, and daily sun protection. Avoid scrubbing, fragranced products, and squeezing pimples, because irritation can prolong redness and burning. Keep a simple record of triggers such as heat, alcohol, spicy food, stress, or new cosmetics.
A dermatologist may recommend azelaic acid treatment or another prescription suited to your pattern. IPL photofacial or pulsed dye laser treatment may be considered for persistent visible redness, but these procedures do not replace assessment of active inflammation.
When to seek care
Arrange a review when facial redness, burning, sensitivity, or pimples persist, spread, or interfere with daily life. Seek urgent eye care for eye pain, light sensitivity, blurred vision, or a gritty eye, because rosacea can involve the eyes.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your pattern fits rosacea, whether the eyes or eyelids are involved, and whether a treatment directed at inflammation is appropriate. Ask which products to stop, how long to try treatment, and whether persistent redness could benefit from a vascular laser or light procedure.
