What should you know about a mini keloid?

A keloid forms when scar tissue continues to build after a piercing, acne spot, cut, injection, or operation. It can feel firm, itchy, tender, or tight and may be pink, red, brown, or darker than nearby skin. A keloid grows beyond the original wound; a thick scar that stays within the wound edges may be a different type of scar.

Book an assessment for rapid enlargement, persistent bleeding, ulceration, increasing warmth, pus, or pain that is worsening. Seek prompt care for fever, spreading redness, or sudden swelling. A scar that becomes hard, changes quickly, or appears without a clear injury also needs examination. These features do not prove a serious disease, but they should not be managed with home removal.
